Candles & Coupons

Every post I’ve made so far has been related to home decor or DIY. I’m changing it up a little bit today, and am going to focus more on the “thrifty finds” aspect of the blog.

Most of my blog posts have been dedicated to showcasing how my home looks (in a decorative aspect) but aside from that, I also follow a very strict cleaning routine. Growing up, my parents always kept a spotless house (i.e., my siblings and I kept a spotless house for them) A junk drawer was unheard of in our house. Now that I have my own home, I enjoy keeping a clean, neat house.

In addition to that…since I have two dogs I have this fear that people will come to my house and smell stinky dogs. My dogs aren’t normally stinky. But the human nose does this crazy thing where it gets used to a certain smell after  short period of time. So, if my house did smell like dog, I probably wouldn’t even notice it because my nose wouldn’t register it!

So. How do I cope with my fear of a stinky house? Candles. I mean…look. That picture isn’t  even everything that I have!

I’ve tried many different brands and types and my favorite is definitely Bath & Body Works candles. They burn evenly, they have a strong pull, and when you’re thrifty like me, you can get them CHEAP. I will break it all down for you.

First and foremost, sign up for their emails. Email is the sure way to stay up to date on their sales and other promos. In addition to that, check their website before you go shop, so that you are prepared! {and check out retailmenot.com to search for promos you may not find on the website, too!}

The 3-wick candles have an average burn time of 25-45 hours and are perfect for large rooms like living rooms or dining rooms. Regular price: $22.50 YIKES! I never, ever pay that much!

The single wick candles have the same average burn time, but since they’re single wick, they’re better options for bathrooms or bedrooms. Regular price: $12.50. Again, I never pay that much!

The beautiful thing about Bath & Body Works is that they offer great sales and discounts, but as I mentioned above, you have to keep up with it.

A few weeks ago, I found a coupon for $10 off $30 purchase. I was very excited to go shop, and the day I went was actually on my birthday. The 3 wick candles were on sale for $12.50 that day and the single wicks were on sale for 2 for $20, and the hand sanitizers are 5 for $6. Since it was my birthday, the lovely ladies let me use the promo on two separate transactions.

Transaction #1:

  • 1 pumpkin candle holder $14.50
  • 1 3-wick candle $12.50
  • 5 hand sanitizers $6.00

Total:  $33.00 – ($10 off $30 coupon) = $23.00-pre tax.

Transaction #2

  • 2 3-wick candles $12.50 each = $25.00
  • 5 hand sanitizers $6.00

Total: $31.00 – ($10 off $30 coupon) = $21.00-pre tax

In addition, with each purchase that day they were giving a holiday coupon book. I received two coupon books. One of the coupons in the holiday book was a free $10 gift with a purchase of $10 or more. It was redeemable that day. So…

Transaction #3 & #4

  • 2 single wick candles on sale for 2 for $20

Total: $20.00 + (one FREE item coupon) = $10.00

Today, while I was out and about I checked my email. I had received an email from Bath & Body works, promoting the $12.50 3-wick candles AND a 25% off entire purchase. WHAT?!

So I made my way there. I also had a coupon to use (*free item of $13 or lesser value with purchase of $10 or higher*)

When I got there, I realized the christmas candles were finally out! It was game over. I knew it was about to go down. I mean look at this fixture!

So I walked out with 6 3-wick candles and a candle holder.

Here’s the breakdown:

  • 1 candle holder @ $9.50

Total: $84.50 – $9.50 (free item coupon) – 25% discount =56.25 pre-tax. WINNER!

It is the best! Since I’m normally buying candles anyway, I will snag a holder + a candle and end up getting the holder for free! #thriftyforthewin

Now I don’t have to worry about people coming over to my house and thinking my house smells bad. I also don’t have to worry about breaking the bank. On those two separate occasions, I had a total of $175.25 in savings at Bath & Body Works. Kemp House is now set with winter scents! All thanks to Bath & Body Works.
